There are 38 West End theatres, the first of which was opened in 1663. West End theatres are registered with the Society of London Theatre.
Made up of over 100 independent, alternative and fringe theatre venues across the Greater London area. These include small and/or non-commercial theatres in the centre, and more mainstream or commercial theatres outside of the centre of London.
The industry organisation for Fringe venues is the Society of Independent Theatres
